1910 in colour

Although colour film only became available in the 1930's, a number of photographers were experimenting with colour years beforehand...

From 1909 - 1912 Russian photographer Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii produced these incredible photographs by shooting three black and white photos through a red, green and blue filter in quick succession and re-combining them. Though monochrome photography provides a comprehensive chronicle of our recent history, it is sometimes hard to imagine the past as a vibrant and vivid world.
